‘You’ve got to give something back. You can’t just sit there.’
– Prince Harry

5-2, Britain’s Prince Harry scored two goals at Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup with BMW, the official car partner at the historic Singapore Polo Club on June 5.

A fleet of 40 BMWs were on the ground to chauffeur 300 VIP attendees including Karen Gillan of “Doctor Who”, “Downton Abbey” star Joanne Froggatt and team players throughout the event.

“It was an honour to be part of the first-ever Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup in Singapore and watch Prince Harry take to the field to raise funds for the Sentebale charity,” said Sonja Piontek, Director of Marketing, BMW Asia. “It was a successful event that was enjoyed by all and we hope to have the opportunity to support such a worthy cause again in the coming years.”

Sentebale, a charity initiated by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, to help support orphans and vulnerable children living with HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

Prince Harry, Sentebale’s Founding Patron, added, “Through youth-led campaigning, training and advocacy, the initiative allows young people affected by HIV/AIDS to be heard. We hope this will create a platform where the needs of young people in the region are listened to – from the need for adolescent-friendly health services, more trained counsellors in rural areas and better sexual reproductive health education in schools. Young people know what works for them and their friends, so we must listen and take note.”

The flagship fundraising event has been running for eight years in different locations worldwide and it finally came to South East Asia for the first time this year.

The event has raised over £4.5million for education, care and critical psychosocial units to support children and adolescents who are affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana, two countries with the world’s second and third highest infection rates.

This year, speaking at the post-tournament dinner at the St Regis Singapore, Prince Harry spoke about Sentebale’s newly developed Let Youth Lead programme aimed at encouraging all youth in sub-Saharan Africa to know and manage their HIV status by 2020, The programme was launched by Prince Seeiso at the charity’s first youth summit in Lesotho in April this year.
