Boxing in Malaysia goes upscale. The most exclusive Black Tie boxing event was set to raise the boxing bar in Malaysia and the International stage with the right support and dedicated encouragement from all sectors of society, government and corporate Malaysia.

Held at the iconic One World Hotel on 16 April, Capstone Sports – the sporting arm of Malaysian amalgamation Vikram Capital, brought international boxers together lining from United States, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Uzbekistan, Singapore and Malaysia to complete the World Professional Boxing Federation for World Title Championship.

The initiative aimed at helping unearth new talents and putting Malaysian boxers on the podium, in  2020 Tokyo Olympics. The World Title bout pitted Juan Bedolla Orezco alias El Tornado, 22 from Mexico VS Qudratillo Abduqahorov, 22 from Uzbekistan in a ten round welterweight match which were the highlight of the Black Tie Boxing night.

The other bouts saw ten international professional boxers, two of whom were Malaysian boxers, namely Jonathan Yeow Ming in Welterweight and Mohammad Shehran in Featherweight, challenged each other with their skills and boxing prowess. Never before have I seen such a competitive professional boxing event in Malaysia which had a huge following for the sport.

“Boxing’s tradition goes back through the eons. It is the quintessential Olympic sport. This is the culture I want our youth to be imbued with to produce champions in boxing. This Championship is not only a ‘Game Changer’ for boxing in the country, but also raising the bar of excellence for the sport,” noted Vikram.

With the prestige essence, the exclusive evening was accompanied by a sophisticated setting with conspicuous individuals – 600 well-heeled Captains of Industry, Senior Government officials and VVIP Guests.

Black-Tie for the event? You do not want to miss the get-up I was on:
