Background actors have always been the unsung heroes. Without these gems, most TV footages or scenes would be rather far-fetched. As clichéd as it may sound – while we’re engrossed in superstars, we never pay much attention to the teams behind-the-scenes.

Sarah Brock, the personal make-up artist to Gal Gadot for the Wonder Woman movie and red carpets has recently shared her journey with our all time absolute Wonder Woman. Read on…

Sarah, share with us the most challenging experience in your life.

S: The most challenging experience in my life was when my youngest son (who is now 19 years old) was diagnosed with autism & severe learning difficulties – he was 2 years old when he was diagnosed. After going through this experience though, it made me so strong & no other challenge in life scares me now.

What inspired you to be who you are today?

S: Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always wanted to be successful and be the best at whatever I do. It’s who I am. I am a very driven individual and a perfectionist and this has definitely helped me to get to where I am today.

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

S: That’s easy for me to answer – my father. He was a professional football player, a dedicated and hard working man – plus he is the most wonderful father and husband. I’ve always looked up to my father and always will – he has always inspired me to be the best that I can be.

How do you keep your passion going?

S: I don’t have to try to keep my passion going – it’s there because I LOVE what I do and making women look naturally beautiful is something I will always love.

You are now a personal make-up artist to Gal Gadot. Tell us more about your journey and working relationship/experience with her and for “Wonder Woman”?

S: I’d been working as a successful fashion and editorial makeup artist for 18 years – Patty Jenkins, the incredible director of Wonder Woman, spotted my work and asked me to work as the personal MUA to Gal Gadot on the Wonder Woman movie. Everything about working with Gal was truly amazing – not only is she the ultimate professional when it comes to being an actor (some of the conditions we filmed in were tough & she never complained once) – she has the most kind, most caring, beautiful soul – she truly is everything Wonder Woman embodies. She trusted me to make her feel her most beautiful every day and I’m truly blessed to have shared such a special journey with her. We worked hard, but also laughed a lot too as she has an amazing sense of humor! I also work with Gal on the red carpet and for commercials which is also something that I adore working on.

What would be your advice for the aspirants who like to have a flair for make-up, and be like you?

S: Accept that this is going to be a long journey to get to where you want to be and that you can never stop working hard. You may be working for years for not a lot of money, but you need to assist as many makeup artists as possible and learn from them. Know which area of makeup you want to work in and study and know everyone that works in that industry. Never stop learning and studying your craft.

Which brands would you reckon for a perfect make up and sensitive skin?

S: There are so many brands that I love and work with – I work with CHANEL and most of the premium brands on the market. For sensitive skin though, La Roche Posay is amazing.

What are your upcoming initiatives?

S: I am currently prepping for my next movie with another incredible actress – I can’t say who at the moment, so watch this space!

What’re the most important things in your life? How do you allocate time for all of them accordingly?

S: The most important thing in my life is my family. I have the most amazing husband and 2 sons and they are my world. It’s hard for any working mum to juggle everything and be a successful businesswoman alongside being a great wife and mother – but I try my best and I know that all working mothers face the same challenges on a daily basis.

What do you love doing outside work?

S: I am a fitness addict! It’s part of my life and I always work out daily and have done so for over 20 years – I adore Body Combat classes and do 7 workouts a week, alongside running and yoga.

If you could have done one thing differently to stand out from the crowd, what would that be?

S: There is nothing I would have done differently as I’m so happy and contented with the achievements I’ve made. I’ve always done things my way and whilst I’ve been inspired by others, I’ve never copied what they do, I’ve always been myself.
